Is embalming required?
Except in certain special cases, embalming is not required by law. Embalming may be necessary, however, if you select certain funeral arrangements, such as a funeral with viewing. If you do not want embalming, you usually have the right to choose an arrangement that does not require you to pay for it, such as direct cremation or immediate burial.

What do Funeral Directors do?
Funeral directors are caregivers and administrators. They make the arrangements for the transportation of the deceased from the place of death, complete all necessary legal paperwork, and facilitate the family's wishes regarding the funeral and final disposition. Funeral directors are support for the bereaved. They are trained to answer questions about grief, recognize when a person is having difficulty coping, and recommend sources of professional help.
I want to be cremated. Can I still have a funeral?
Cremation is simply a process in the final disposition. Many people feel it is emotionally beneficial to have a viewing and commemorative services prior to the cremation. The cremated remains are frequently buried just as a full body is.
Why can't I be cremated immediately?
Immediate cremation is nearly impossible. There are numerous steps the funeral home must take, prior to performing a cremation, to satisfy state regulations; and it can take several days for all those legal processes to be completed.
Do I have to buy a casket for cremation?
A casket is not required. However, for dignity and sanitation and to facilitate the process we require that the body be in a rigid container. If you want to arrange a direct cremation, you can use an alternative container. Alternative containers encase the body and can be made of materials like fiberboard or composition materials (with or without an outside covering.)
